On October 24, 2026, WSRID will host its Annual Membership Meeting (AMM). This meeting is an opportunity to share the past year’s activities and actions, report on the overall health of the organization, and provide space for member questions and input on future priorities, and close nominations for the upcoming elections. We hope you can join us!

Open Board Positions

The board intends to open annual elections by electronic ballet for board positions at the annual member meeting on October 24th. as well as a vote on any proposed motions or referendum. Ballots will open on October 24th and close on November 6, 2026.

WSRID is seeking passionate and committed members to serve on the Board. Serving is a rewarding way to make an impact, build professional connections, develop leadership skills, and hopefully have some fun too! Open positions and descriptions are at the bottom of this page.

The following Board positions are now open for nominations for the upcoming election during our Annual Membership Meeting. There will be a call for nominations for:

Open Board Positions (2026-2027 Term)

Eight positions are open:

  • President: 2027-2028 (2 year term)
  • Secretary: 2027-2028 (2 year term)
  • Director - 3 positions open: 2027-2028 (2 year term)
  • Director - 2 positions open: 2026-2027 (1 year remaining)
  • Student Director: 2027 (1 yr term)

Eligibility

All nominees (except Student Director) must:
  • Be a voting member of WSRID for at least 2 years
  • Be a voting member of RID in good standing

Student Director requirements:

  • Member of WSRID for at least 60 days
  • Recommendation from an ITP instructor
  • In final year of interpreter training
  • Able to participate in board meetings using sign language

If you would like to nominate someone, please email us using the link below. We will then confirm that they are eligible. If the nominee is eligible, we will ask them if they accept the nomination. After accepting, we will request a photo, short bio, and finally a statement regarding their desire to serve on the board.

Motions & Referendums

Have an idea you want WSRID members to vote on? The Board can help you prepare and format your proposal. Motions and referendums must be submitted via email to: governance@wsrid.org by October 24, 2026.

Every motion must include:

  • Motion – What action are you asking WSRID to take? (Be clear and detailed.)
  • Rationale – Why is this important? How does it support WSRID’s mission and purpose?
  • Impact – What changes if this passes? Will there be financial costs or income generated?
  • Referenda to be voted on by mail or electronic transmission may be drafted by the Board or submitted to the Board by written petition of not less than ten percent (10%) of the voting members.

Election/Voting Overview

  • Voting Method: Electronic only
  • Nomination Period: August 6 - October 24, 2026
  • Voting Period: October 31 (opens at 5:00 PM) – November 30, 2026 (closes 11:59 PM)
  • Eligibility to Vote: Must be a Certified or Associate WSRID member in good standing as of October 24, 2026. (WSRID Bylaws article 3, section 4)
  • Board Nominations
    • Online nominations accepted until October 24, 2026
    • Nominations may be accepted from the floor at AMM on October 24th (candidates must be eligible and present to accept/decline)
  • Results Announced: December 1, 2026

Voting Requirements

Voting on proposals, directors, or officers may be taken by mail or by electronic transmission only if the name of each candidate and the text of each proposal to be voted upon, including action to be taken on passage or failure of motion, are set forth in a record accompanying or contained in the notice of meeting, delivered not less than thirty (30) days, nor more than fifty (50) days, before the vote is taken. Award Nominations

Every fall, recognize members of our organization for their support and outstanding work in the field with the below award.  If there is someone you would like to honor, please email us and let us know!

Judie Husted Member of the Year

The Judie Husted Member of the Year Award is presented to a WSRID member who reflects the character traits and commitment to our organization as displayed by the namesake of this award.  Those traits include dedication, mentoring, service, and involvement to better our organization and supports colleagues. 

Theresa B. Smith Distinguished Service Award

An award WSRID gives to express its deep appreciation for dedication, inspiration, and vision as well as many other contributions to the organization and the profession. Named after Theresa B. Smith, CSC, PhD has served WSRID as an active member since WSRID’s founding in 1968, serving as board member, mentor, and conscience of the organization.

If you would like to nominate a WSRID member you feel exemplifies dedication to our professions, please submit your nominations to wsridnominations@gmail.com no later than September 1, 2019.

It is helpful to the election committee if nominations are submitted in the form of a paragraph or letter outlining reasons why a person should receive this award rather than submitting only a name for nomination.
